The school is adjacent to Tusyazaki beach where a lot of poeple go for swimming in the summer. In such an environment our students can go swimmning, windsurfing and sailing directly from the schoolyard. There are a fishing port, a yacht basin, and a dock near the school.
Our school has seven courses. Let us explain some of them.
First, navigation course students have the chance of getting on the large training vessel "SEA FRIEND" every fall. On the Pacific Ocean they practice catching fish and navigating the ship. The voyage, including internatinal exchanges in a high school in Hawaii, will take about 60 days. As a result of such a task, they get the qualification to navigate a large ship. After graduating from school, they work as chief engineer or captain of large fishing vessels, ferries and cargo ships.
Second, marine technology course students can get the NAUI master scuba diver qualification. They also learn to weld underwtater and move heavy cargoes, and then work as a professional diver. Some students get the instructor qualification in extracurricular activities and work as a diving instructor in Okinawa or overseas.
Third, food distribution course students process agricutural and fishery products. Some of them are canned tuna, fish burgers, fish tempura, boneless ham, and strawberry jam. Such an experience make it possible for them to get the food hygiene administrative qualification. They will work for major food companies after graduation or run a restaurant in the future.
Lastly, aqua life course students study coastal fisheries and aquiculture in addition to repairing nets, trapping net fishing, and culture seaweed and shrimps. To succeed as a fishery manager, they have to learn bookkeeping. This course trains the younger generation in cooperation with the local fishery cooperative.
In addition, some students go on to college or university of fishery. As some examples, there are Tokyo University Marine Science, Tokai University, Ehime University, Nagasaki University, Miyazaki University, Kagoshima University, Ryukyu University and Fishries College.
